Study in Germany

1. Why Study in Germany?: 1.8 million students around the world go abroad to attend a university. Nearly one tenth of those students choose to come to Germany. Germany has a lot to offer to foreign students, be they first-year students or postgraduates. Germany's universities combine age-old traditions with modern technologies.German universities are open to anyone who fulfills the prerequisites and academic freedom is one of the basic principles of the German university system. That's also one of the reasons German universities don't charge tuition fees.

2. Commencement of semester/s Summer semester: April (minor intake, only for limited subjects/universities) Winter semester: October (major intake, for all subjects/universities) When to start applying: As per universities application deadline. Document Required Students are required to submit the university application form duly filled up along with authenticated copies of their educational and work experience certificates (as may be required). Academic background: German universities have a very high academic standard. Thus students who wish to study in Germany also have to have a strong and impressive educational track record. A student's academic background should be related to the field of study he wishes to pursue in Germany. Standardized test scores such as SAT, TOEFL, IELTS,: SAT is required for UG courses. TOEFL or IELTS scores are also mandatory. Universities offering PG programmes in Engineering may ask for a GRE score and offering MBAs may want a GMAT score.

3. Tuition and Living Cost: Living expenses may range between 600(INR 33,000) and 750 (INR 42,000) depending on the university,s location.Metros are more expensive than smaller towns. Tuition scholarships/ fee waivers: Universities have very limited scholarships which are offered only to the most brilliant and outstanding students. Permitted working hours for extra income: Students are can work off campus for a maximum of 180 half days (four hours of work per day ) without obtaining any permit. There is no restriction on the number of hours for on campus jobs, which are related to a student's programme of study.

5. Student visa: It takes up to eight weeks to process a visa application are thus known only after about two months. If a visa is granted to a student, it is initially valid only for a period of three months. On arrival in Germany, the student will have to visit the Foreigners Registration Office in the city where the university is located and get the visa extended for the duration of the study programme for which the student is enrolled at the university.
