FAQ OVERSEAS STUDY

1. Who are we? [ TOP ]
Worldwide education consultancy provides educational counseling service for students who are seeking overseas education. The services include advise and support for application to all education levels. Since 1995 we have offered free advice for students to study abroad.

2. What are the countries and institutions that Worldwide represents? [ TOP ]
High schools, colleges, universities in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Links below will provide you the lists of schools and universities that we represent.

3. What are the some of the documents required in applying for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees? [ TOP ]
- Application Form and fees (if applicable) - Transcript in English - IELTS / TOEFL score - GMAT and work experience are required for some business related programs. - Two or three letters of recommendation from either your instructor or former employer. - Personal Statement - Resume/CV

4. How long does it take for a response after the application has been submitted? [ TOP ]
It usually takes about 4-6 weeks, but depending on the subjects and degrees applied for, it could be longer or shorter.

5. Do the universities have ranking? [ TOP ]
Students should not put too much importance on rankings as a university ranked low overall may have a high ranking in the student's area of interest. Worldwide can advise you on this subject. - - For England, ranking information is available at British Council. - For United States, ranking information is available at: http://www.usnews.com/ For Australia, New Zealand and Canada, there are no academic rankings.

6. What is the difference between tuition fees and cost of living expenses between countries?
[ TOP ]

Note : - Tuition fees vary depending upon the duration of the courses and the institution. Information on some postgraduate programs is available in the table below. - Cost of living varies depending on the city and the duration of stay. Life style is another factor which may affect the cost of living.

7. In applying, what English test is required? [ TOP ]
Both TOEFL and IELTS are acceptable. However, IELTS is preferred in England, Australia and New Zealand. While TOEFL is preferred in United States and Canada.

8. Are there any scholarships and where can we find the information? [ TOP ]
Usually, universities offer wide range of scholarships for international students. 9. Are there any counseling fees? [ TOP ]
Our services are free in most cases. For USA and canada institutions, there may be a small charge. Please check with your counselor.

10. What are the benefits in applying through Worldwide? [ TOP ]
- By applying direct, students will have to gather information, contact, and follow up on the application and accommodation by themselves. These processes often consume time and cost. - Worldwide will provide you with up to date information on the entire process of your study abroad experience. Worldwide, on your behalf, will co-ordinate with the universities in submitting and following up on the applications and the accommodation. In addition, our staff can assist and advise you on student visa and travel arrangements.

11. Are students allowed to work while studying? [ TOP ]
- For England and New Zealand, international students are allowed to work, but no longer than 20 hours per week. - In Australia, international students are allowed to work only if students have a work permit and working hours should not exceed 20 hours per week. To obtain the work permit, student must be enrolled in a course at the university. More information is available in DIMIA (Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs) web site, http://www.immi.gov.au/students - International students in the United States are allowed to work only within the university campus and should not exceed 20 hours per week. - In Canada, students that enrolled to short courses (less than 6 months) are not entitled to work. International students are allowed to work only within the university campus, but working hours should not exceed 10 hours per week.

12. What if I do not have the IELTS results or if the result does not meet the university's requirements, can I still apply for a Postgraduate program? [ TOP ]
Universities will not unconditionally accept an applicant without IELTS or TOEFL results. However a student may be accepted with the condition that the student must summit the IELTS or TOEFL results with the acceptable score or above before a given date. Students may also be accepted with condition that they be required to attend an intensive or pre-sessional English class before attending academic classes. The duration of the class will depend on the students' level of English.

13. Do I have to take the IELTS / TOEFL test again after I have completed the universities' English courses? [ TOP ]
Sometimes but frequently the universities have their own English test at the end of the course. Check with your counselor for more details.

14. How can students contact the Worldwide staff while studying abroad? [ TOP ]
Worldwide, always welcomes questions and feedback from students. Our staff can be contacted at worldwidestudy@rediffmail.com. In addition, once students have arrived at the university, they should contact the university International Student office for further advice either on your study, accommodation, or personal problems.

15. Do university accommodation have private bathrooms? [ TOP ]
Commonly, university dormitories do not have private bathroom. If the student finds this uncomfortable, students can rent the private accommodation outside the campus. Your Mentor counselor can provide you with more information of private accommodation.

16. When does the academic year begin? [ TOP ]
- For England, it begins in September. However, there are some programs that start in January. - For Australia and New Zealand, the academic year begins in February. However, there are some programs start in July. - For the United States, the year usually begins in September. However, many universities have starting dates in January. - For Canada, the intake begins in between August and November. - Please check with your counselor for exact dates.

17. When is the best time to submit the application? [ TOP ]
Since most universities have limited space in the university and in some courses, it is important to apply as early as possible. Therefore, students should plan ahead for at least 6 months before the academic year begin. For the most popular courses, you should consider applying as much as 10-12 months in advance.

18. Is health check-up required in applying for visa and before the flight? [ TOP ]
- For England, New Zealand and United States, health check-up is not required. Students should bring along your medical certificate in case it is requested. - For Australia, medical certificate and chest x-ray is required in applying for your visa. Students must fill in the medical form provided at the Australia embassy. - For Canada, medical check-up is required from students if the course taken is longer than 6 months.

19. If I would like to apply for a postgraduate degree but my qualifications do not meet the university requirements, what should I do? [ TOP ]
First, you might consider other courses or universities that may accept your qualifications. You may consider taking an entrance exam such as the GRE or GMAT as a good score on these tests will enhance your application. You may also consider postponing your study and gain more work experience.

20. Can I apply for Business Degree but having no degree from the related fields? [ TOP ]
Yes, but it would depend on each of the university's terms and conditions or you may need commensurate work experience. Your worldwide counselor can advise you on specifics.

21. In applying for MBA, is GMAT required by the universities? [ TOP ]
GMAT is a requirement for students applying for MBA to most universities in United States and Canada. For England, Australia, and New Zealand, and only particular universities require GMAT.

22. Comparing between countries will there be any difference in terms of English accent?
[ TOP ]

English accent or pronunciation varies between cities and countries. You may want to consider taking an English course in the country where you will be studying even if you have achieved the required IELTS or TOEFL score. This will also help your minimize "culture shock".

23. When is the last day to submit the application? [ TOP ]
Normally in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, there is no specific deadline in submitting your application. The earlier you send the applications, the better chance you have in gaining acceptance. Many North American universities have application deadlines and you should see your counselor about the universities in which you are interested.

No, our service for institutions in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand are free of charge. There may be a small fee for counselling for some American and Canadian schools & universities.

Some of our universities offer scholarships for their students. For more information please contact our counselling department.

3. What is normally included in application documents?[ TOP ]
Application form (can be gotten from Mentor International) - Personal photograph - Transcript of your grades (in English) - English Language Certification (IELTS/TOEFL) - Recommendation letters (2 or 3) from instructors or supervisor - Resume/CV - GMAT for MBA and business related applicants or GRE for other US/Canadian Master's degree applicants - Proof of ability to pay all costs for your study aboard

4. What should we do if we want to stay in a university accommodation?[ TOP ]
We will contact the university and will see that they arrange university accommodation for you.

5. What is the weather like in UK, AUS, NZ, Canada, and US? [ TOP ]
The weather varies greatly from one part of each country to another. Your counsellor can tell you about specific locations.

6. Why do I need to take IELTS or TOEFL? [ TOP ]
And what is the minimum requirement? Your IELTS/ TOEFL score will show the university your level of English language speaking and comprehension. The minimum requirements vary depending upon the institution and the course.

7. Will students have Internet access at the university?[ TOP ]
Most of the institutions have Internet access for their students.

8. Will they offer airport pick-up?[ TOP ]
Some universities offer airport pick-up service while some suggest ways to find means of transportation from the point of entry. Your counsellor will help arrange this for you.

9. What documents do we need for visa application? [ TOP ]
Generally you will need: - passport - Acceptance from the university - Financial Statement - Two photographs - Evidence that you have booked accommodation during your stay - Health Examination result for AUS and NZ
